How do I know which classes have online waitlists?
Not all classes or departments are using the waitlist. There is a list on this website that names all the courses that have the electronic waitlist. *Coming Soon
How are students prioritized on the waitlist?
Students are placed on the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis – no exceptions.
I’m looking at the course schedule and it says the section I want is closed (i.e., marked with a “C” instead of a checkbox). How do I get on the waitlist for this section if I can’t check the box?
To get onto the waitlist, you must enter the section’s CRN (course registration number) into the Add Classes Worksheet located under the Add/Drop Classes link in self-service. Select “Register” on the worksheet once you’ve typed in the CRN(s) and then you will be prompted to join the waitlist since the class is closed.
I want to sign up for the waitlist for this course, but I don’t meet the requirements (i.e., missing a prerequisite, must be an Honors student, Juniors/Seniors only, reserved for certain majors, etc.). Even though I don’t meet the requirements, can I still sign up for the waitlist – just in case some seats are available?
Even on the waitlist, all the same registration rules apply. So if a class requires that you have passed a certain course to take it, or that you are a senior, or is reserved for specific majors only – if you don’t meet those criteria, you cannot register for the course OR sign up on the electronic waitlist. HOWEVER, if you are given a permit from the department to override the requirement, such as a prerequisite, you will be able to sign up for the waitlist.
Once I get an email from the waitlist about registering for a class, how long do I have to claim the open seat?
Once a waitlist notification email is sent, students have exactly 24 hours to claim the open spot before they are dropped from the waitlist and the seat is offered to the next student on the list.
I didn’t check my email and missed my registration window for the waitlist! Can I get back on the top of the list?
No, you can’t. It is your responsibility to check your email regularly (even during the summer) if you know you are waiting for information about the waitlist. If you miss your 24-hour window to add a course, you are dropped from the waitlist, so you must add yourself back to the waitlist and you will be at the bottom of the list.
