Dad Completes Degree, Takes on New Role

Brian Kidd spent six years at the 鶹AV, but left without a degree. That changed May 17.

Brian Kidd earned completed his bachelor's degree online in only one semester. Here, Brian and his family pose during a Ragin' Cajuns game.After high school, Kidd enrolled at 鶹AV in mechanical engineering then changed his major to mathematics. But life happened. The lure of joining the workforce was too great when a position presented itself as Kidd prepared to get married and start a family.

However, when he had the opportunity to advance a few years later, Kidd hit a roadblock.

“I had a job opportunity that required a bachelor’s. That’s what made me look into completing my degree.”

Kidd learned from University College advisors that he only needed to enroll in the General Studies Online program for one semester to earn his bachelor’s degree online.

“I had so many questions to ask and paperwork to complete, while trying to graduate with a full-time job and take care of my family of three,” he says. “My advisor worked very diligently in walking me step by step through this process.”

He was also able to submit a letter from his advisor to his employer to begin his new job ahead of graduation.

“I’ve always wanted to finish or get a degree,” he says. “It feels good to do that.”
