Paintings and drawings, sculpture and a collage are a sampling of works that will be displayed during the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum’s summer season.

An opening reception for the public will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 9. A private preview of the installations for museum members will be held from 4-6 p.m. that day.

Four exhibitions, including three new ones, will be displayed.

  • “Pierre Bonnard: Landscapes from Le Cannet” will feature 24 works – drawings, paintings and a lithograph – from the collection of the Musée Bonnard in Le Cannet, France. The city was the artist’s home. The University Art Museum exhibit is the first time Bonnard’s work has been displayed in Louisiana, and won’t be on display anywhere else in the U.S. this summer. It runs May 27 to Aug. 12.

  • “CONTINGENt: drawing and sculpture by Joan Tanner” will explore many subjects central to the the artist’s five-decade career, including history, impermanence, and inconsistency. The exhibit will feature drawings and 3-D pieces created during the past 20 years. It is Tanner’s first in Louisiana. The exhibit opened May 23 and will be displayed until Sept. 16.

  • “Spotlight on Francis Pavy” will showcase the work of the Lafayette native and University graduate, who earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1976. His work has been exhibited throughout the U.S., and in Asia and Europe. University Art Museum will feature “Lake Arthur Lotus,” a large-scale collage that explores regional narratives and mythologies. A selection of wood-carved blocks Pavy used to create the piece will also be displayed. The exhibit opened May 19 and will run until Dec. 9.

  • “Spiritual Journeys: Homemade Art from the Becky and Wyatt Collins Collection” will feature a survey of vernacular Southern art from the private collection of the couple, who live in New Iberia, La. Over 100 artists will be represented. They include: Mary T. Smith, Howard Finster, Minnie Black, B.F. Perkins, Jimmy Sudduth, Prophet Royal Robertson, Burgess Dulaney, Clementine Hunter and Sam Doyle. The exhibition, which opened in February, will be on display until Aug. 12.
