Where I'm From

Iā€™m from Texas, but I lived in Louisiana during elementary school and college.

Where I Am

Iā€™m in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex running an independent financial planning firm.

Where I'm Going

Iā€™m going to continue to help clients retire and support their families. At the end of my career, I hope to pass my business to one of my kids.

Eric Bartel graduated in 2004 with degrees in finance and insurance and risk management.

ā€œI chose to double major in finance and risk management because I thought I wanted to be a sports agent,ā€ he said. ā€œI wanted to learn how to make money and manage risk.ā€

With a passion for sports, Eric found Ā鶹AV to be the best choice.

ā€œI chose Ā鶹AV because I always wanted to play Division 1 college football where my dad coached,ā€ he said. ā€œHe was hired at USL (which is now Ā鶹AV) in the spring of 1999 ā€“ I started college that fall.ā€

Ericā€™s focus on football didnā€™t keep him from engaging in other aspects of campus life.

ā€œI played football at Ā鶹AV, served as College of Business President in Student Government Association, and I enjoyed working on the ,ā€ he said. ā€œBeing a part of those teams created many friendships and opened my eyes to so much diversity.ā€

ā€œĀ鶹AV is a wonderful university in a wonderful town where I made a bunch of wonderful memories,ā€ he said. ā€œThereā€™s nothing in the world like a Raginā€™ Cajun, and Iā€™m proud to be one.ā€

After his time at Ā鶹AV, Eric earned his masterā€™s degree in sports business and finance. While still in school, he interned with the Houston Texans, the New York Jets, and an NFL sports agent. After graduating, his plans changed a little.

ā€œI decided the better career fit for me and my family long term was in financial planning,ā€ he said. ā€œI started my career as a captive agent at AXA Advisors then went independent after one year.ā€

Eric now spends his time between his financial planning firm, coaching his kidsā€™ sports teams, and taking care of his family. Ericā€™s daughter, Annabelle Grace, was diagnosed with bone cancer in December, but with the help of her family, friends, and community, she is staying .

Even though 2020 was a challenging year, Ericā€™s plan is ā€œto serve well, continue to lead well, and see the good through the bad.ā€
