Hilliard University Art Museum has new hours this semester

The Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum has new hours for the Spring 2015 semester.

It will be open an additional three hours each Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and will be closed on Fridays. Other museum hours will remain the same.

LouAnne Greenwald, museum director, said the change will enable the museum to schedule more programs each week at a time that’s more convenient for working professionals.

“By opening one weekday evening, that gives our community a better chance to get here, as well as people on campus,” she said.

Programs scheduled on Wednesday nights could include lectures, readings, panel discussions or musical performances.

“We’re not quite there yet, but we hope to start having some kind of presentation or event almost every week,” Greenwald said.

New exhibits for spring opened at Hilliard University Art Museum last week. They include works from the permanent collection as well as works by regional artists, including:

• “Truth and Identity: Questions for the Self in Works by Gary Chapman,” open through May 16;

•  “The New Sublime: Video Works by Courtney Egan,”
open through May 16; and

•  “Henry Botkin: Evolution (Part 2),” open through April 18.

The University Art Museum features 11,000 square feet of gallery space and is the largest exhibition space between Houston and New Orleans. It houses a collection of 18th- through 21st-century European, Asian and American art. In addition to its permanent collection, it offers changing exhibitions of regional, national and international art.

The museum is at 710 E. St. Mary Blvd., on the Â鶹AV campus.
