Students teaming up to coordinate Hurricane Ida relief drives

Ā鶹AV students are stepping up to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, and they need your help.

The UL Student Nurses Association and Sigma Nu fraternity are coordinating relief drives, according to posts on each organizationā€™s Instagram account. Ā鶹AV student-athletes are also supporting relief efforts.

The is seeking a range of items that members will distribute to Louisiana residents impacted by the hurricane. It is collecting clothes, shoes, water, nonperishable food, toilet paper, diapers, baby formula, face masks and hand sanitizer, first aid items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, work gloves, batteries, battery-powered fans and tarps.

Donations can be dropped off in Ā鶹AVā€™s Student Union until Friday, Sept. 10. The drop-off station is in the Student Affairs Division office, which is on the Student Unionā€™s first floor in Room 162. The office is near the Cypress Lake Plaza entrance.

The association has also established a way for people to make ā€œcontactlessā€ contributions. Its includes items that can be purchased online. The deadline for those purchases is Wednesday, Sept. 8.

is seeking water, nonperishable food, clothes, household goods and school supplies as part of its relief drive. Donations can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sunday, Sept. 5, at the fraternity house, 107 Glynn Abel Drive.

Sigma Nu members will deliver the donated items to Houma and surrounding areas.

Ā鶹AV student-athletes are also kicking in relief for Southeastern Louisiana University and Nicholls State University.

The Louisiana Soccer team will face the SLU Lions at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, at the Raginā€™ Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility. Fans are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to the game that will be donated to SLU in Hammond. Sodexo will also donate proceeds from concessions sold at the game to SLU.

Ā鶹AVā€™s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Black Student-Athlete Association will sell lunches outside the facility from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on game day. Proceeds from those sales will be donated to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.
